PM to visit Germany, discuss climate change among global issues

New Delhi, ( : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Germany June 26 to June 27 to attend the G7 Summit. Theme of this year’s G7 Summit, being hosted in Elmau, is ‘Progress Towards an Equitable World’. Prime Minister will also address the Indian community during his visit. This will be Modi’s third time attending the summit, where he will participate in various discussions surrounding climate change, energy, food security, health, environment, democracy and gender equality. Prior to this Modi has attended the G7 FRANCE 2018, then in 2021, he participated virtually in the G7 summit hosted by UK.

The G7 countries- Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and United States of America comprise about 45% global GDP and more than 10% world population. G7 summit is a platform to have bilateral discussions on several global issues like peace, counter-terrorism, development education, health, environment & climate change. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during his address at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in 2022, said that a conscious effort was made to invite representatives from several nations as their contribution is essential for the world to further move towards combating global challenges in the future.

While inviting leaders of India, Indonesia and Argentina Scholz said, “They represent countries & regions whose contribution is needed by the world if we are to make progress in WORLD global challenges in future.” Representatives from South Africa and Senegal were also sent an invite for the summit.(H.S)
