Raipur : Chhattisgarh becomes the fifth largest state in the production of fish seeds

Fish farmers are supplied with the best quality fish seeds

After the Government of Chhattisgarh conferred the status of farming to pisciculture, the cost of production of fish seeds has decreased considerably because of the exemption in electricity rates, free water, and interest-free loans available to fish farmers. The income of fish farmers is also increasing. Chhattisgarh is one of the leading states in the country in fish seed production. Now, private sector units are also coming forward in the field of fish research here, and Chhattisgarh has also received the Best Inland State award in the field of fisheries.

There is continuous development and progress in fisheries in Chhattisgarh. Everything from fish seed production to fish production, fish marketing is being conducted under the welfare schemes run in the state. The state has become self-sufficient in fish seed supply and is the fifth largest state in India in inland fish seed production. In the last five years, fish seed production in the state has increased from 251 crore to 344 crore standard fry. An increase of 37 percent was recorded in fish seed production.

To achieve self-reliance through pisciculture, fish farmers are producing fish seeds in seasonal ponds under the fish seed promotion program. More than 5,000 fish farmers have benefited from this scheme. Similarly, in the years 2023-24, 500 fish farmers will promote fish seed production. In the last quarter to five years, 23 new circular fish seed hatcheries were established. At present, 92 fish circular hatcheries are available for fish seed production. It is noteworthy that the best quality fish seeds are being supplied as per the demand of fish farmers in the state and also in other states like West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Goa.
