Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Supreme Court in India has conducted the
highest number of hearings via video-conferencing in the world during the
pandemic.
The PM made the remarks during Diamond jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat High
Court which he attended virtually.
The Gujarat High Court completed sixty years of its establishment on May 1,
2020.
Heaping praises on the country’s judiciary, Mr Modi said it has performed its
duty well in safeguarding people’s rights and upholding personal freedom, and
added that it has also strengthened the Constitution.
‘Through constructive and creative interpretation of the Constitution, our
judiciary has strengthened the Constitution itself,’ he added.
In order to make the country’s justice system future-ready, the possibility of
using Artificial Intelligence (AI) was being explored, the Prime Minister
observed.
On the occasion, Mr Modi also released commemorative postage stamp.
On National Judicial Data Grid , Mr Modi said that the system will help lawyers
and litigants see cases and orders with a click of mouse.
Supreme Court Justice MR Shah, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Vikram Nath,
Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad, Gujarat Chief Minister
Vijay Rupani and Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta were also present in the
