SECL clocks fastest 150 million tonne coal production since inception


Company achieves 150 MT coal production for the record fifth time

Bilaspur (Thestates.news)| Gevra, Kusmunda and Dipka megaprojects make significant contributions SECL’s annual coal production has crossed 150 million tonnes in the financial year ’23-24. The company has touched the figure of 150 million tonnes of coal production a month early, registering an increase of 16.95 million tonnes (12.73%) as compared to the last financial year.
If we look at the coal production of SECL in the last 5 years, SECL has produced 167 million tonnes in the year 2022-23, 142.52 million tonnes in the year 2021-22, 150.61 million tonnes in the year 2020-21, 150.55 million tonnes in the year 2019-20 and Coal production of 157.35 million tonnes has been recorded in 2018-19. Thus, SECL has crossed the figure of 150 million tonnes of coal production for the record fifth time since its inception.

SECL’s megaprojects played an important role SECL’s megaprojects have contributed significantly to this achievement of the company. The country’s largest Gevra mine has contributed 46.11 million tonnes of coal, Kusmunda 38.5 million tonnes and Deepka 26.3 million tonnes. Thus the total share of these megaprojects in company’s total production stood at around 74%. SECL has delivered historic results this year in overburden removal also, and the company has already surpassed last year’s total OBR and is on track to achieve the highest annual OBR since inception.
