Bilaspur (thestates.news)| In a major step to modernize and streamline telecommunications, South East Central Railway (SECR) inaugurated a new GM Intercom Exchange at its headquarters in Bilaspur. The inauguration was led by General Manager Shri Tarun Prakash, in the presence of Additional General Manager Shri Vijay Kumar Sahu, Chief Signal & Telecom Engineer Shri G.P. Khunte, Divisional Railway Manager Bilaspur Shri Rajmal Khoiwal, and other senior officials.
The new exchange is an Asterisk-based IP telecom system operating on Voice over IP (VoIP) technology. It enables audio and video calls via tabletop IP phones and offers advanced features such as conferencing, one-touch dialing, call transfer, call forwarding, and video calls that can be displayed on large screens (TV/PC), making operations more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly.
Being open-source, the Asterisk system can seamlessly integrate with hardware from any OEM, offering universal compatibility and cost-effectiveness. The implementation of this system is expected to significantly enhance speed, efficiency, and reliability in railway operations.
Shri Tarun Prakash directed officials to extend this advanced facility to the Raipur and Nagpur divisions, as well as railway residential complexes, to ensure wider accessibility for railway officers and staff. This initiative by SECR marks a forward-looking approach in railway telecommunications, reinforcing administrative efficiency while adopting modern and innovative technologies.(S-PIB)
